Why Discovery Bay students
Discovery Bay is one of Hong Kong's most expat-dense residential communities, and almost every family here is navigating the same academic profile: the ESF pathway through Discovery College on-site (IB MYP into DP) or a daily ferry to ESF and British curriculum schools across Central, Kowloon and the South Side. Many DB families also feed into Discovery Bay International School (DBIS) for British/IGCSE/A-Level, Renaissance College in Ma On Shan, Yew Chung International School (YCIS) in Kowloon Tong, or Hong Kong International School (HKIS) in Tai Tam for the AP route. The reality on the ground is that the 25-minute Central ferry plus a school day leaves little time for catch-up — and the ESF/British academic pace through MYP 4–5 and Year 10–11 is unforgiving. Our tutors run sessions in HKT around the DB ferry timetable, align to the exact scheme of work at Discovery College, DBIS, Renaissance and HKIS, and build IGCSE technique that transfers cleanly into IB DP HL or A-Level.
Exam boards we cover
The dominant IGCSE board across British curriculum schools in Hong Kong, including DBIS Year 10–11. Sat in May/June with Core and Extended tiers depending on subject.
Used by several British curriculum schools in HK and a common alternative path for DB families. Comparable rigour to CIE with slightly different paper structures.
The 9–1 graded variant used by a subset of HK British curriculum schools and DB families targeting top UK senior schools and sixth forms.
Syllabus coverage
Full coverage of CIE 0478/0984 and Edexcel 4CP0, with emphasis on algorithm writing, pseudocode and Python.
Binary, hex, two's complement, ASCII/Unicode, image and sound representation.
CPU, fetch-execute cycle, memory hierarchy and embedded systems.
LAN/WAN, IP/TCP, encryption, authentication and cyberthreats.
AND/OR/NOT/XOR, truth tables and logic-circuit construction.
Linear/binary search, bubble/insertion sort, trace tables.
Variables, selection, iteration, arrays, file handling and subroutines.
Single-table databases, primary keys and SQL fundamentals.
Structured CIE 0478 and Edexcel 4CP0 past-paper work for DBIS mock weeks.
We work with students at leading IGCSE institutions across Discovery Bay.
What we fix
How we fix it:DB students lose 60–90 minutes a day to the Central ferry plus onward MTR/bus. We schedule weekday sessions in DB-time evening slots (6:30–9pm HKT) and weekend mornings before the noon ferry rush, so tutoring expands study time rather than competing with it.
How we fix it:Discovery College's MYP 4–5 and DBIS Year 10 schemes move quickly into IGCSE/IB pre-DP content. We map sessions to the school's unit planner and front-load the topics — algebraic fluency, lab write-ups, exam phrasing — that the school covers fastest and assesses hardest.
How we fix it:Hong Kong's Lunar New Year holiday (late Jan–mid Feb) sits directly on top of Year 11 / Year 13 mocks. We run an intensive pre-CNY past-paper block plus a structured CNY 'do-not-decay' plan so students return to school exam-ready rather than rusty.
How we fix it:T8 signals and black rainstorm warnings routinely cancel school days in Hong Kong. All our DB sessions are online by default, so a typhoon day becomes a catch-up day — not a lost week — and we reschedule instantly within HKT.
Why ComboTutors
Our CS tutors actually write code — they teach pseudocode, Python and algorithm logic from real engineering practice, not textbooks.
Evening HKT sessions, T8 and Lunar New Year resilience built in.
We drill algorithm writing — the highest-mark questions on Paper 2 — every single week.

IGCSE Computer Science in Discovery Bay
Yes. We support Discovery Bay families across Discovery College, DBIS, Renaissance College, HKIS and YCIS with online IGCSE Computer Science tuition scheduled in HKT around the Central ferry timetable. DB students mostly sit CIE 0478 (or 0984 in select cohorts); we also cover Edexcel 4CP0.
Yes. Discovery College runs the full ESF MYP-into-DP pathway. We match tutors who know the ESF unit planners and the IB DP assessment criteria, so weekly sessions reinforce — rather than replay — what's covered in class.
All sessions are live 1-to-1 online in Hong Kong Time. This matters in Discovery Bay because it removes the ferry-and-MTR commute, lets us run evenings post-ferry (6:30–9pm HKT), and keeps lessons going on T8 typhoon and black rainstorm days.
We schedule around the DB-Central ferry. Most DB students take lessons in the 6:30–9pm HKT window or weekend mornings before the noon ferry. Tutors confirm a recurring slot so families can plan around school, sport and the ferry.
Yes. Discovery Bay's family base is heavily expat — British, Australian, Canadian, American and East Asian — alongside Hong Kong families on the ESF and British curriculum tracks. Our tutors teach to the curriculum and exam board, not nationality.
Lessons continue. Because we're online, T8 typhoons and black rainstorm warnings don't stop tuition. We often add a catch-up session in the same week to recover any school content lost to weather closures.
