Why Kota Kinabalu students
A-Level provision in Kota Kinabalu is genuinely scarce. Kinabalu International School (KIS) at Likas is the main Sabah anchor for Cambridge International A-Level Economics (9709, 9702, 9701, 9700 series), with Sayfol International School Sabah offering Cambridge AS/A2 pathways and a small number of TTSS Likas leavers crossing into Cambridge A-Level Economics after their UEC. Because Sabah is separated from the peninsula by the South China Sea, KK families cannot easily commute to KL, JB or Penang tuition centres — and East Malaysia simply does not have the examiner-level A-Level Economics pool that peninsular cities take for granted. Our Kota Kinabalu A-Level Economics tutors are matched by paper code, university target (UMS, UM, USM, UTM, Curtin Sarawak, or Australia/UK), and around CNY, Hari Raya, Tadau Kaamatan, Gawai Dayak and KIS Mock Week.
Exam boards we cover
The dominant A-Level route in Kota Kinabalu, anchored at Kinabalu International School (KIS) Likas with Sayfol Sabah offering Cambridge AS/A2 alongside. Linear AS + A2 structure with strong international university recognition.
Used by some Kota Kinabalu British curriculum schools. Modular structure means students can resit individual units — useful for Kota Kinabalu students balancing UCAS and US applications.
Smaller uptake, but offered by some schools serving Kota Kinabalu families repatriating to the UK.
Syllabus coverage
Our A-Level Economics tutors cover the full specification with extra depth on the topics where Kota Kinabalu students most consistently lose marks.
Demand, supply, elasticity and consumer/producer surplus.
Perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly and game theory.
Externalities, public goods and government intervention.
GDP, inflation, unemployment and growth measurement.
Fiscal, monetary and supply-side policy.
Trade theory, exchange rates and balance of payments.
Growth, inequality and development indicators.
CIE 9708 and Edexcel 9EC0 mark-scheme drilling.
We work with students at leading A-Level institutions across Kota Kinabalu.
What we fix
How we fix it:Kinabalu International School (KIS) at Likas runs IB DP and Cambridge in parallel, which means IA/EE deadlines collide with Cambridge Mock Week and the May exam ramp. We back-plan Economics sessions against the KIS calendar so neither track gets sacrificed.
How we fix it:East Malaysia is separated from peninsular Malaysia by the South China Sea, so the examiner-level Economics pool that KL, Penang and JB take for granted simply does not exist on the ground in Kota Kinabalu. Our online 1-to-1 model opens the full peninsula, UK and Australia specialist pool to KK families.
How we fix it:Tshung Tsin Secondary School (TTSS) Likas is Sabah's top Chinese-medium independent school running the UEC, and many Chinese-Sabahan families add or switch to Cambridge IGCSE Economics mid-cycle to keep UK and Australia options open. We bridge the UEC Economics content into the Cambridge 0580-style paper format.
How we fix it:Tadau Kaamatan (30–31 May) and Gawai Dayak (1–2 June) are major Sabah and East Malaysia public holidays that peninsula-based tutors routinely miss when scheduling Economics sessions. Our Kota Kinabalu tutors plan the calendar around them — including the Kadazan-Dusun Harvest Festival lead-in week.
How we fix it:Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is the local public option, but most KIS, Sayfol Sabah and TTSS leavers target UM, USM, UTM, Curtin Sarawak in Miri, Australia or UK universities. We tune Economics preparation to whichever entry standard — Cambridge predicted, IB predicted or AP score — the target demands.
Why ComboTutors
Kinabalu International School (KIS) Likas is the only IB DP school in Sabah and runs Cambridge IGCSE/A-Level alongside. Our Economics tutors are picked to handle both pathways — IA/EE supervision style for IB and 0580/9709-series technique for Cambridge — without the generic peninsular-template lesson plan.
Sabah is cut off from the peninsular Cambridge Economics specialist pool by the South China Sea. Online 1-to-1 lessons in MYT give Kota Kinabalu families at KIS, Sayfol Sabah, Maktab Nasional KK and Sri Insan the same examiner-level access KL families have — without anyone flying across the country.
We schedule Economics lessons around CNY, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Tadau Kaamatan (30–31 May) and Gawai Dayak (1–2 June) — the holidays that actually move the KK school calendar — not the peninsula default. Kadazan-Dusun, Bajau, Chinese-Sabahan and Malay-Sabahan families plan once, not twice.

A-Level Economics in Kota Kinabalu
KIS Likas runs Cambridge International for A-Level Economics alongside the IB Diploma — Cambridge IGCSE 0580-series and A-Level 9709-series style papers for the Cambridge track, and IB DP HL/SL Economics for Diploma candidates. We match tutors to whichever KIS pathway your child is on.
Yes. Sayfol International School Sabah in Inanam follows Cambridge A-Level Economics, and we match Cambridge-trained tutors to the Sayfol Sabah scheme of work, including the October and May/June Cambridge sittings.
TTSS Likas runs the UEC as its main pathway, but many Chinese-Sabahan students sit Cambridge A-Level Economics in parallel for UK and Australia entry. Our tutors bridge UEC Economics content into Cambridge paper format and timing, especially for 0580/9709-style structured questions.
Yes — Tadau Kaamatan (30–31 May) and Gawai Dayak (1–2 June) are major East Malaysia holidays. We block them by default and pull A-Level Economics sessions forward or back so KK families do not lose revision momentum into the May/June exam window.
All A-Level Economics lessons for Kota Kinabalu families are online 1-to-1 in Malaysia time (MYT, GMT+8) — the same time zone as the peninsula — so there is no time-shift hassle for KIS, Sayfol Sabah, Maktab Nasional KK, Sri Insan or TTSS students.
A-Level Economics tutoring for KK families starts from MYR 120/hour, with the first trial lesson free and no minimum-term contract. Pricing is the same whether the student is at KIS Likas, Sayfol Sabah, Maktab Nasional KK or TTSS.
